Press Release

The international workshop and visiting school programme of the Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA School), London, shall be held in Delhi NCR on the last week of July 2013. AA Visiting School Programme is happening for the first time in Delhi after three successful annual iterations in Bangalore since 2010. The complete programme is an international collaborative effort of the Architectural Association with Zaha Hadid Architects, London along with its Principal Partners: Trust for SEARCH and Design Plus, Institutional Partner: Sushant School of Art & Architecture, Ansal University, Marketing Partner: RelioQuick, and Web media Partner: ArchitectureLive!

“We are very pleased to bring AA Visiting School to Delhi, which has been on the cards for a couple of years”, says architect Abhishek Bij, one of the Tutors of the Workshop and a key initiator of the event. AA Visiting School is a platform to engage with the realities of global architectural culture. Since its launch in January 2008 in Dubai, the Visiting School has grown into a worldwide programme of short courses, design and research workshops of extraordinary depth, quality and learning.

AAVS 2013 has two programme components: Hyperthreads 2013, a 10-day teach-design-build workshop exploring digital tools and processes, to be held at Sushant School of Art & Architecture, Gurgaon and Search Forum, a one-day symposium on aspects of digital architecture to be held in New Delhi involving international experts from AA School, Zaha Hadid Studio, Sci-Arc etc. as well as professionals from India. The forum provides a space for deliberations on design processes undertaken in the Workshop and intends to offer nuanced discourses on the application of computational design and build methodologies for the first time in India.

“Such activities are opportunities to bring together the architecture and design community for meaningful discussions”, says Dr Suptendu P. Biswas, Managing Trustee of Trust for SEARCH and one of the advisers of the whole event. AAVS 2013 is expected to mark a firm route to explorations and debates on digital architecture in India.
